BIO
Edwy Plenel is a leading figure in investigative journalism, tirelessly defending the freedom of the press, the right to knowledge, and democratic and constitutional values. After starting his career as an activist at Rouge and then Matin Paris in the 1970s, he became the editor of Le Monde in 1980, a position that he held for 25 years. The man behind numerous revelations and inquiries, his actions reflect his firmly-held belief that “everything of public interest must be made public”. He left his post at Le Monde in 2005 and founded the online newspaper Mediapart in 2007. In doing so, he invented a new economic model for a free and independent press, in an era of digitalisation and democratic crisis.
